The House on the Hill by Elizabeth Laird

My name is Yuko Harada; I am student in Mr.Sheehan’s third period English Communication 2 class on Thursday. The title of my book is “The House on the Hill” was written by Elizabeth Laird in 1978, it is a level 2. “The House on the Hill” is love story. Main character is Paul who was poor. He wanted to be a writer and work for a newspaper. One day, Paul met beautiful girl and he was in love at once. The girl’s name is Maria who was rich. Paul loved Maria so he proposed to her with him poem. But Maria’s mother opposed marring because Paul is poor. Paul was feel down and Maria was married rich man shortly afterwards. Paul knew this news on newspaper. When he turned the newspaper over angrily, he found an advertisement on the back page. He thought this is big chance. He worked hard to writing story and he got the first prize. And the newspaper office offered work in this company to him. He took on this offer, and he work on newspaper as reporter. After a few months Paul know Maria left her husband and the news killed Maria’s mother. He thought Maria was freedom, she can marry Paul. Paul went to her house but the house looked empty. He walked round the house and went in the house. There were nobody there, and they were all empty. At last he came to very big room. Suddenly, the door opened and Maria was standing in the doorway. He talked with Maria. But Maria never loved Paul, she loved money, party and clever, young people. Paul noticed that he loved Maria’s beauty, but he also loved Maria. He turned, and walked out of the room. Paul felt very happy. The last of the story Paul could meet him pretty cousin Elsa with a smile.
