Sultan Shahriar had a beautiful wife. He loved her more than anything in the world. But his wife cheated on her husband. From that time the sultan began to hate all women. One day, he decided to marry a new wife every day, so he stays with her for one night and the next morning he kills her. So no woman will hurt him again.
Many girls were killed by the sultan. No girl wanted to be the sultan’s wife. One day, the sultan’s vizir’s daughter, Sheherezade, became the sultan’s wife. However she had a good idea, so she was beautiful and clever. She knew many wonderful stories a thousand and one. Night after night, she told them to the sultan. She always stopped in an exciting place. She wasn’t killed by the sultan, because he wanted to hear the end of story.
In the end of story the sultan loved Sheherezade and she loved him too, and they were very happy.
I thought Sherezade’s stories are very interesting, for example, a clever servant girl, a boy judge, a stupid barber and Aladdin and the Lamp. We will be able to enjoy until sad story from funny story in this book.

Pedro had no work and no money, but Pedro’s wife had a baby boy. One day, an old woman who was able to see into the future said to Pedro,“This boy will grow up and become famous.”Because his son, Palito was good at playing football, he became a footballer. Finally he became a great footballer and built a children’s hospital to help poor people. This story taught me how wonderful family’s love is. In this story, Palito broke his legs and lost his skills in running fast. When Palito tried to give up playing football, Palito’s family cheered him. I think that thanks to family’s love, Palito could bear up. I enjoyed reading this book, though I am not interested in football very much until now.

The Man in the Iron Mask written by Alexandre Dumas

This book is level 2 reader and adventure story.

The sence is laid in 17th century France. Louis XIV was the King of France. Aramis, the Bishop of Vanners, thought that Louis is a bad king, so he tried to make Philippe who was in a prison the king. During a plot of Aramis, Louis knew that he and Philippe were twins. Louis was angry about his plot and pursed Aramis to kill him. In fact, Aramis was not killed but his friends were killed during the fight. Finally, Louis got Philippe out from prison, but he ordered Philippe to cover his face with an iron mask all the time.

I sympathized with philippe because he could live a normal life if he didn't be born as a twin of Louis XIV. If it hadn't been for monarchy, tragedy would not have happened.

A STRANGER AT GREEN KNOWE written by Lucy M. Boston

This story begins in the African Congo. Deep in this hot, wet, forest lived a little gorilla. He lived there with his family. One day his family were killed by human beings. However he was taken to the Zoo. he was named Hanno by his keeper.

One day, he met a boy named Ping in this Zoo. When Ping saw Hanno in the Zoo, he was excited, but was unhappy, because he thought taht Hanno should be free.

Then, Hanno escaped from the Zoo. A few days later, Ping and Hanno met again at Green Knowe. Gradually, bonds of them became strong. However Hanno was killed by a man who killed Hanno's father at the end of the story.

I felt sad because a man who misunderstood Hanno as being tried to kill Ping killed Hanno.

Mysteries of the Unexplained by Kathy Burke

In this level three Penguin Reader a number of interesting topics are introduced. The book is divided into seven short chapters with a number of different activities. The topics include UFOs and other supernatural phenomenon.

The book introduces a lot of famous mysteries and gives some background information. It is written in a very factual way and it is up to the reader whether or not to believe.








The list of topics in the book is too long to write about each one, but some of my favorites were Lost Civilizations and Ancient Worlds. I particularly enjoyed reading about Stonehenge and Easter Island. It is fun to think about these past civilizations and wonder why they created such places.



The section on Ghosts was also a bit scary. It was fun to read about ghost stories from other cultures.

That's all for now. If you have a chance to read it, I highly recommend this book. It really makes you think about the world and makes you wonder what else is out there.
